A power station in The Netherlands, producing electricity for the Dutch high-voltage grid and heat for the city water grid, recently decided to install the FlexiDrive remote operator to operate a hard-to-reach valve from a safe distance.
The company was looking for a solution to safely and efficiently operate a manual, hard-to-reach valve, positioned in an inaccessible location. When operating the valve, scaffolding was required, taking considerable time and costs to organize and install.
To eliminate the need for scaffolding, as well as the risk of operator injury, the management of the utility company searched for a safe yet cost-effective solution. Actuation of the valves would have been relatively expensive, adding unnecessary complexity and wiring infrastructure. As a result of installing Flexidrive, the valve is now operated from an easily accessible and safe location. For operational convenience, the operator station has been mounted to a rail, allowing the operator to open and close the valve from the ground floor. A visual position indicator at the operator station allows the operator to quickly and easily determine the position of the valve. The valve station is fitted directly to the valve using a purpose-designed mounting kit. The cable from the operator station to the valve station runs alongside a wall, pipework, and existing plant infrastructure.
